How it works
- Type a country name (autocomplete handles spelling and common aliases like “Türkiye” / “Turkey” or “CDMX” / “Mexico City”).
- The checker pulls the latest record from SafeTravelGal's database — the most recent advisory level and FCDO summary captured by our 6-hour cron job.
- You see a snapshot card: overall safety score (dataset v1.0), current advisory level, FCDO alert, per-variable risk sub-scores, emergency numbers, and LGBTQ+ legal status.
- Click into the full country guide for sources, last-fetched timestamps per feed, “what to watch for,” and granular risk-breakdown copy.

FAQ
Is it safe to travel to [country]?
Type the country name above. The checker returns the current US State Department advisory level, UK FCDO summary, AU DFAT divergence flag (if any), and the verified sub-scores from our v1.0 dataset (theft, harassment, scams, night safety, LGBTQ+ legal status, emergency numbers). Every fact links back to its primary source.
How current is the data?
Live advisory feeds — US State Department, UK FCDO, AU DFAT, and CDC travel health notices — are pulled every 6 hours by an automated job. The country page linked from the checker shows the exact last-fetched timestamp for each source. Verified sub-scores are from dataset v1.0 (frozen 2026-05-13).
What sources does the checker use?
Live: US State Dept, UK FCDO, AU DFAT, CDC, GPI, Equaldex. Verified (dataset v1.0): theft, harassment, scam, night-safety sub-scores, LGBTQ+ legal status, and emergency numbers. The methodology page documents exactly which fields are live and which are from the dataset.
What if my country isn't covered?
The current dataset covers 50 countries — the destinations with the highest inbound search volume from solo female travelers. If yours isn't there, the checker says so and links to the underlying government feeds so you can read the advisory directly.
What this tool does NOT do
It does not give advice tailored to your specific medical conditions, insurance situation, age band, gender expression, or trip purpose — those need a licensed professional. It does not certify a destination as safe; conditions on the ground change. It does not consider real-time event-driven risks (active conflict, natural disaster, disease outbreaks beyond CDC notices) that haven't yet propagated into the four feeds. Always check your government's current advisory directly before booking and traveling.
