How version numbers work
Format
v{major}.{minor}
Major version increments when the scoring methodology changes (new sources, new formula, new weights). Minor version increments when dataset values are refreshed without formula changes.

Refresh cadence
Dataset values are reviewed on a quarterly schedule. Live government advisory feeds (US State Dept, UK FCDO, CDC) are scheduled to be pulled every 6 hours and do not increment the dataset version. AU DFAT is not among them: Smartraveller has blocked our automated requests since 2026-05-17, so its values remain those captured in the v1.0 dataset on 2026-05-26.

Version history
Reason
Corrected how the methodology describes the v1.1 formula and the v1.0 scores. The page had called the formula live and said any reader could reproduce a country's composite from it with nothing undisclosed. Run on the dataset file, the formula reproduces 47 of 50 composites; three were set lower by hand (Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Israel). The scores guides display are whole numbers from the live database, which the formula does not produce. The UK FCDO input scores the same 75 for 48 of 50 countries in the dataset file, so it does not separate them.

Reason
Stopped calling the v1.0 scores verified or analyst-assigned. No record shows a person assigned them or verified them, and the site's own About page says no verifier is named. The methodology now says they are fixed estimates drafted with AI assistance in May 2026, with no source recorded for each number and no named sign-off. The score badge and sub-score sentences on country guides were reworded to match.

Reason
Corrected how the methodology describes the composite score: a single number on a 0 to 10 scale (for example 9.1), not a single integer, assigned with reference to the sources listed on the methodology page rather than to live and planned sources. The emergency-contacts page now says where its numbers came from instead of calling them verified at dataset freeze.
